The tiny hamlet of Welsh Frankton stands between the famous village of Whittington, the birthplace of the first Lord Mayor of London.

The delightful town of Ellesmere, 3 miles away is a pretty market town with Tudor, Georgian and Victorian buildings, found nestling between the beautiful mere (lake) and the Shropshire/Llangollen Canal, in an area known as Shropshire’s Lakeland.

Thomas Telford was based in the town while building the canal.

There’s much to see and do within easy travelling distance from the Cabin. From easy walking around the Mere or along the Llangollen Canal. Or visiting our famous world heritage sites Pontcysyllte Aqueduct or Ironbridge Gorge.
Ironbridge - Start of the Industrial Revolution

The World Heritage Centre in Ironbridge
The bridge – being the first of its kind fabricated from cast iron, and one of the few which have survived to the present day – remains an important symbol representative of the dawn of the industrial age.

LLangollen Railway
The railway is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and this is evident as the train gently meanders through the Dee Valley. The views from our carriages are breathtaking and constantly changing from season to season, you will see the first spring lambs and the ever changing colours of the beautiful vista

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Trevor Basin
There’s a very good reason why our ‘stream in the sky’, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and 11 miles of the Llangollen canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
